The BOC-Davao is set to file appropriate charges against the suspected smugglers for violations of Republic Act No. 10863, also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).

Acting district collector Maita Acevedo said the seizure was made possible following a tip from a concerned citizen who reported the presence of a suspicious truck in their area.

The confiscated smuggled cigarettes will be destroyed, she added.

The BOC vowed to continue to uphold the rule of law and prioritize protecting the Filipino people from the harmful effects of illicit tobacco products, she said. Vito Barcelo
