The Global Youth Summit (GYS), an annual event organized by SM Cares and the Global Peace Foundation (GPF), has returned with its largest iteration to date. This year, the summit is being hosted in 17 different locations across the Philippines, with the kick-off event held at SM City Iloilo Southpoint in Iloilo City on May 25.
The opening event featured a performance by the P-pop boy group Alamat, setting a lively tone for the summit.
The GYS provides a platform for young people to share ideas and collaborate on sustainable solutions to global challenges. Each of the 17 summit locations represents one of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Thousands of students and youth leaders from across the country and abroad participate in the GYS each year. The summit includes a variety of activities, seminars, and workshops focusing on topics such as technology, sustainable development, health, education, economic growth, and public policy.
Experts and key opinion leaders from both the private and public sectors, as well as academia, are invited to share their knowledge and inspire action among the youth.
Registration for the 2024 GYS was made more accessible through the SM Malls Online app. Youth leaders can register by searching via the app or by visiting the link provided: https://bit.ly/GYSRegistration.
In addition to the GYS, SM Cares supports numerous other programs aimed at children and youth, all aligned with the 17 UN SDGs. These include “The Book Nook,” a free library and community hub, and initiatives supporting UNICEF’s education programs for children. SM Cares also runs programs focused on the environment, women and breastfeeding mothers, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities.
