SUBIC Bay Freeport—Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) for the construction of an employee housing project at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone (SBFZ).
SBMA chairman and administrator Eduardo Jose Aliño said the accord on the project inside the SBFZ would benefit employees of the agency.
DHSUD Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar said the housing project was in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program.
“This housing project will greatly benefit SBMA employees, especially those who fall within the low income bracket, so they can also afford to buy housing units that they can call home. Thank you Secretary Acuzar for this wonderful gift to the SBMA workforce,” Aliño said.
He said that the socialized housing project will last up to 50 years, with the beneficiaries given a certificate of ownership of leasehold rights, instead of a title.
Earlier, DHSUD Undersecretary Wilfredo Mallari said the participation of private contractors is vital to the success of the 4PH program.
“Kailangan natin ng suporta ng mga private contractors para sa programang pabahay ng gobyerno (We need the support of the private contractors for the government’s housing program),” Mallari said.
The DHSUD has already started promoting the joint venture agreement and public-private partnership (PPP) under the 4PH program.
