The United States and the Philippines held productive working group meetings on agriculture and labor under the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) on May 8, 2024.
Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral agricultural trade, highlighting the importance of biotechnology and innovation in ensuring food security and sustainability.
The United States and the Philippines also discussed the implementation of internationally-recognized labor rights, including promoting workers’ rights to freedom of association and collective bargaining.
Representatives from workers and employers participated in discussions aimed at advancing worker rights in key sectors.
The meetings will lay the groundwork for the upcoming TIFA Council meeting in July 2024.
