Red tide alert

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources under the Department of Agriculture warns against eating shellfish notably mussels and oysters, along with Acetes sp. commonly known as alamang collected from the coastal waters of Dauis and Tagbilaran City in Bohol, Matarinao Bay in Eastern Samar, Dumanguillas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur, and San Benito in Surigao del Norte which tested positive for toxic red tide. BFAR said all types of shellfish and alamang taken from these areas are not safe for human consumption, while fish, squids, shrimps, and crabs should be washed thoroughly and the internal organs and gills removed before cooking.
