Firm marks World Day of safety at workplace

A global provider of sustainable infrastructure and renewable energy solutions has brought together industry leaders and professionals to commemorate World Day for Health and Safety at Work 2024.

The gathering, organized by Acciona, was held at The Tent, Enderun Colleges Tent, Enderun Colleges last Apr. 18 in McKinley Hill, Taguig City.

Now on its second year, ACCIONA Health and Safety Day was attended by over 200 health and safety professionals from diverse sectors, showcasing the group’s commitment to prioritizing workplace safety and fostering a culture of innovation, sustainability, and collaboration.

A highlight of the event was the connection with the ACCIONA’s cutting-edge Smart Control Center. This pioneering, powered by artificial intelligence, offers real-time monitoring and predictive analysis, setting new standards for proactive risk management in the workplace.

Ruben Camba, ACCIONA Southeast Asia Infrastructure managing director, emphasized the company’s dedication to safety and innovation.

“Our commitment to innovation is evident in initiatives like our Artificial Intelligence- powered smart center, which revolutionizes safety by predicting potential risks and intervening before incidents occur,” he said.

The event also featured keynote speeches from industry experts, including Pablo Yañez, ACCIONA's head of health and safety for the Infrastructure division, and Dr. Tomas Camacho, an international expert on Toxicology.

Attendees participated in engaging discussions and roundtable presentations focused on advancing workplace safety practices.

Representatives from the private and public sector such as the Department of Labor and Employment reaffirmed their commitment to collaborate with various sectors and industry leaders to drive continuous improvement in workplace safety standards. 

Jose Maria Batino, and engineer, emphasized that companies “need to integrate resiliency in occupational safety and health programs.”

“How you do it would be a function of a lot of things including resources, people, and stakeholders,” he said.

He encouraged companies to adopt work arrangements that prioritize the wellbeing of employees. Specifically, he urged establishments and companies to “go back and appreciate the policies that have been issued by the Department of Labor and Employment” such as Labor Advisory No. 8series of 2023 on safety and health measures to prevent and control heat stress at the workplace given the rising heat index in the Philippines.
