House Speaker Martin Romualdez thanked the consortium led by San Miguel Corporation CEO Ramon Ang for the consortium’s project to provide an even bigger space at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 for departing overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
Romualdez dropped by the NAIA-3 on Tuesday afternoon with Pampanga Rep. Aurelio Gonzales and Zamboanga City Rep. Manuel Jose Dalipe to check on the progress of the construction of the planned OFW lounge.
“Here at T3, because more passengers will come here, we are very grateful to Mr. Ramon Ang and Ma’am Cecille (Ang’s daughter) for accommodating not only the OFW lounge here but they want to accommodate a larger space that’s almost double the area,” Romualdez said.
“The ones who want to give more, they are reduced from the first plan in the request. So, we really see that the operation here at [NAIA-3] will be better,” he added.
SMC-SAP & Co.—the consortium of San Miguel Holdings Corp., RMM Asian Logistics Inc., RLW Aviation Development Inc. and Incheon International Airport Corp.—bagged the P170.6-billion public-private partnership (PPP) project for the comprehensive rehabilitation and operation of NAIA terminals.
The planned OFW lounge in Terminal 3 could be operational by the end of June and can accommodate up to 200 passengers.
“We are also grateful to the management here for coordinating this request to make sure that our migrant workers, who are traveling through the NAIA terminals, are accommodated as VIPs should be,” Romualdez said.
The Office of the Speaker also delivered yesterday an initial donation consisting of a 55-inch and a 65-inch television set that would be installed at the NAIA Terminal 1 OFW lounge to provide entertainment for the departing migrant workers.
A subsequent donation of four TV sets will be delivered for use at the OFW lounge in Terminal 3.
“The rehabilitation and operation of NAIA under this PPP framework demonstrate the unwavering commitment of the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to fostering sustainable growth and innovation in our transportation infrastructure,” Romualdez said.
