SB19 Pablo takes center stage as Earth Hour ambassador

WWF-Philippines tapped SB19 leader Pablo as the official Earth Hour music ambassador for 2024.

In a post shared by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines, it said that the P-pop artist is set to headline the annual switch-off event happening in Manila on March 23.

On the other hand, Earth Hour Philippines National Director Angela Consuelo Ibay said the reasons why they chose Pablo as this year’s ambassador.

“Pablo, for us, represents the passion and resilience of Filipinos, and we want these qualities to be front and center for the annual Earth Hour celebration, which will be the 16th anniversary in the Philippines,” stated Ibay.

Ibay also recognized how Pablo’s music reflects environmental issues important to the country.

“As SB19’s songwriter, creative director, and CEO of their label, Pablo has masterfully infused his music with Filipino culture, flavor, and style. Earth Hour is a global grassroots movement for the environment and we celebrate it in our own unique Filipino way. Pablo is the perfect ambassador for Earth Hour,” she added.

The director also emphasized that the Philippines is expected to face the effects of climate change such as flooding and droughts. Earth Hour serves as a valuable platform to promote environmental causes to the public.

In collaboration with the Manila City local government for its 16th year, the annual Earth Hour event will be held at the Kartilya ng Katipunan in Manila City. The global lights-off event will occur from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. local time. In addition to Pablo, performers like Ched and Lirah Bermudez will also be part of the event.

Over the years, more than 190 countries have joined the global lights-off movement in support of nature. Earth Hour was first observed in the Philippines in 2008, following its initiation in Australia the year before.
