‘Pieta’ actor and producer Alfred Vargas plans nationwide tour in honor of co-stars

Actor and public servant Alfred Vargas expressed sadness over the sudden loss of his Pieta co-star, Jaclyn Jose, thus, he promised to honor her memory through a nationwide tour. The film, which stars Jose in one of the last movie projects she appeared in before she passed away, also features Nora Aunor in the lead role and Gina Alajar essaying an important character.

“I couldn’t believe it when I heard the news. It’s incredibly saddening. It feels like just recently we were shooting for Pieta and she was perfectly fine then. I didn’t notice any illness from her. This really wasn’t expected,” he said in an interview.

“I am forever grateful to Ms. Jane for what she taught me and the experiences I had with her. We lost a pillar of Philippine cinema too soon,” he went on, alluding to the wisdom shared with him by the award-winning actress.

Pieta enjoyed limited and special screenings last year, and this year, Vargas, as the film’s producer, is gearing up to take it on a nationwide tour to reach diverse audiences.

“We can’t ignore the requests from fans, especially the Noranians. We’re flooded with messages from all over the Philippines and even abroad, showing how much people want to see the movie,” Vargas revealed.

Looking ahead, the actor hinted at new projects while acknowledging the challenge of following up on the success of Pieta. He emphasized the importance of selecting quality projects that match the standard set by their previous collaboration.

“We’re taking our time with the next project,” Vargas said. “Our focus remains on Pieta for now.”

Vargas acknowledges the abundance of project offers. “Producing is easier now,” he admits. “Many approach us with exciting ideas. We have a wealth of promising options! But choosing the right project after ‘Pieta’ is crucial. Recapturing the magic of those characters is a challenge we take seriously.”

Despite his demanding schedule, Vargas expresses gratitude for his support system. “Strict scheduling is key,” he reveals. “Appointments are divided into 15-minute slots, with 10 to 25 per day. It’s tiring, but productivity and helping others are fulfilling rewards.”

Vargas credits his wife and staff for his well-being. “My wife is incredibly supportive and hands-on at home. My staff knows my routines well, minimizing my worries upon returning home. It’s all about family time then.”

“My office staff is equally diligent and dedicated,” he adds. “We share the same vision, and their service is invaluable.”

Vargas concludes on a positive note. “By God’s grace, we achieve balance. Exhaustion comes, but it’s a happy kind. Service to District 5 continues alongside our new baby, Aurora Sofia. She might be my source of recent inspiration. Fatherhood feels amazing, and she fuels my overall excitement for life. With Yasmine’s support at home and my passionate staff, I can accomplish a lot in both my personal and public spheres.”
