Director Todd Philipps delights ‘Joker’ fans with photos from upcoming sequel

In celebration of Valentine’s Day, American filmmaker Todd Philipps released new photos from ‘Joker: Folie à Deux,’ the upcoming sequel of his hit psychological thriller film, ‘Joker’ (2019).

In his post on Instagram, Philipps shared three photos of Joaquin Phoenix, who played the titular character, along with Lady Gaga, who is set to play Harley Quinn.

“Hoping your day is full of love,” the director said in his post.

The post included three images of Gaga and Phoenix posing under a spotlight, touching noses while being separated by a prison cell, and dancing on a rooftop in formal clothing.

While the long-awaited ‘Joker’ sequel is already set to hit theaters on Oct. 4, 2024, an official trailer has yet to be released. Philipps’ post was met with fans expressing their excitement for the upcoming film as well as calls for the release of the trailer.

The ‘Joker’ film was originally intended to be a standalone film but the sequel had eventually gone into development in June 2022. Since then, Phillips has been sharing some on-set photos on his Instagram account.

Apart from Phoenix and Gaga, other cast members for the sequel also include Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, Steve Coogan, Ken Leung, and Harry Lawtey.

Upon its release, the ‘Joker’ film received multiple nominations from various awards-giving bodies such as the Golden Globes, where it took home the Best Original Score and Best Actor for Phoenix’s performance. It also broke the record for the most nominations received by a film based on a comic book, comic strip, or graphic novel from the 92nd Academy Awards with a total of 11 nominations.

Before directing and writing ‘Joker’, Philipps directed all three films from ‘The Hangover’ series and also produced ‘A Star is Born’ (2018) which Gaga starred alongside Actor and Director Bradley Cooper.
