PAL warns of fake socmed accounts, bogus info

Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) on Monday cautioned the public against unscrupulous individuals using fake PAL accounts on social media and spreading bogus information.

The PAL management is referring to the Facebook account “Philippine Airlines – Main Page” stating: “The Antimonopoly Committee obliged Philippines Airlines to sell part of its air tickets at a low price. In this regard, the company organized a promotion – a Philippines Airlines certificate for 6 months of free flights for only P168. To participate, click the “Apply Now” button at the bottom of the post and receive your card with free delivery.”

PAL spokesperson Cielo Villaluna clarified that this is a bogus account and there is no such promotion from the airline.

“Do not fall for this phishing trap! Please be reminded that official announcements on promos are posted on our corporate website www.philippineairlines.com and our official PAL Facebook Page,” she said.

PAL has been the target of numerous false social media advertisements in recent years.

In 2019, the legacy carrier also came up with a warning against the fake ad stating: “It’s our anniversary: Answer a few questions to get 4 free tickets to Philippine Airlines.”

The same fake PAL promotional advertisements were circulated in 2017 and 2018.

Under the Consumer Act of the Philippines, any person found guilty of false advertising shall be subjected to fines or imprisonment of not less than three months but not more than two years or both upon the discretion of the court.
