BOC seizes 2k tons of rice at Limay port

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Limay seized more than 2,000 metric tons of rice worth P100 million in a vessel anchored at Orion Dockyard in Barangay Elena, Orion, Bataan on Dec. 25.

BOC Port of Limay District Collector Atty. William Balayo said his men arrested the 18 suspected smugglers on Christmas Day when they tried to unload the smuggled rice from Cebu.

The ship’s owner and crew will face charges over large-scale agriculture smuggling and violations of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

Documents showed that the ship declared that it was transporting only 1,700 metric tons of agricultural products.
