The University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs capped their first round with a huge roar, beating the National University Bullpups, 85-78 in the junior division of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines 86th Season at the Fil Oil Arena in San Juan over the weekend.
Spitfire Lanze Ronquillo showed his prowess as a court general in playmaking and shooting as well as he led his team to the hard-earned victory that put the Espana boys to a tie for third (4-3) with the Far Eastern University Junior Tamaraws in the team standing, where the Adamson University Young Falcons are lording it over with a 7 -0 clean slate.
The NU Bullpups remained in second, 5-2, going into the second round elimination after the holiday season.
University of the East and Ateneo are tied with 3-4, while De La Salle Zobel is holding a precarious 2-5 card. The UPIS is cellar dweller with 0-7 mark.
“Thank you Lord for this victory, kay coach (Manu Iñigo) at teammates ko na na- develop na namin nang husto ang communication sa game. A fitting way to end our first-round elimination with a bang,” said the young Ronquillo, the game’s best player who scored 15 points, to go with 3 rebounds and 6 assists.
