Where do broken hearts go? This is the poignant question that the upcoming comedy-drama film, Broken Hearts Trip, seeks to answer. Led by the talented and award-winning actor Christian Bables, the film promises a rollercoaster of emotions and laughter.
Premiering nationwide on Dec. 25, Broken Hearts Trip is the official entry for the 49th edition of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) of BMC Films in collaboration with Smart Films.
The movie revolves around a reality show hosted by Bables. In the show, he is also one of the three ‘Judgers’ alongside character actress Tart Carlos, and the seasoned actress Jaclyn Jose. They take the audience on a journey into the lives of five brokenhearted LGBTQ individuals played by Teejay Marquez, Marvin Yap, Petite, Iyah Mina, and Andoy Ranay.
After enduring countless heartaches, frustrations, and seemingly endless grief, their chracters are given a chance to heal in some of the most beautiful places in the Philippines.
A corporate agency sponsors a reality competition titled The Broken Hearts Trip, offering contestants the opportunity of a lifetime. To stay in the competition, participants must remain single at the end of their journey, with a one-million-peso cash prize awaiting the last gay man or trans woman standing. Each destination becomes a stage where these individuals confront their past, navigate the road to recovery, and ultimately decide whether their journey is a pursuit of money or a quest for love.
In each episode, the film spotlights one participant’s experiences, where every step and activity, though not always going as planned, offers valuable lessons. The journey continues, growing more enriching and exciting as the contestants grapple with the perplexing question at the heart of the film.
Joining the lively ensemble of cast members are Jay Gonzaga, Ron Angeles, Argel Saycon, Arnold Reyes, Kevin Posadas, and Sinon Loresca, each contributing their unique charm to engaging roles. The screenplay, penned by Archie Del Mundo, based on an original story by Lex Bonife, is executive produced by Benjie M. Cabrera, Omar Tolentino, and Power Up Workpool Inc.
The producers express their excitement for joining the MMFF, emphasizing the film’s unique perspective on showcasing local tourist spots while weaving stories of love, and heartbreak, picking up the pieces, and moving on.
“People want to be entertained,” they note. “Broken Hearts Trip makes you laugh and cry, all while taking you to scenic places around the country. It’s funny, dreamy, and brave at the same time.”
