Basketball Training Center gets Ilocos Norte boost

Organizers of the 14th season of the National Basketball Training Center just found a new supporter who will take the initiative to help discover and develop young and talented basketball players.

Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Manotoc, a sportsman himself, will be among those, who will help the NBTC when the province hosts of one of four regional championships next year.

The Centennial Arena in Laoag City will be the first stop of the regional meets on Jan. 18 to 21.

“We are proud partners of the NBTC. We’re looking forward to the Northern Luzon championships, welcoming everyone, not only the players, but the entire basketball culture (of the region),” said Manotoc, following Thursday’s press conference at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

After the Northern Luzon leg, competitions will head down south for the Mindanao leg in Saranggani from Feb. 1 to 4.

The Visayan leg in Cebu City will follow from Feb. 15 to 18, before the South Luzon leg is held along from Feb. 29 to March 2 in Batangas.

“This is a momentuous occasion as we unveil a new chapter to the books of the NBTC. As you all know, after 14 seasons, we unveiled a brand new logo in keeping up with the times.

The national finals are set from March 18 to 24 to MOA Arena.

There will be a total 96 cities participating in 72 Local City Qualifiers, all seeking spots in the four Regional Championships.

The regional championships promise to give the NBTC a fresh look and its most innovative season yet in 2024. Peter Atencio

The champions and runners-up of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines and the National Collegiate Athletic Association will be around.

Ten more spots will be allocated for the global teams, along with two wildcards to make up a 32-team field.
