PCG man dies amid rescue try in La Union

A MEMBER of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) died a hero while engaged in a search and rescue operation in Tubao, La Union last Tuesday.

PCG Petty Officer Third Class (PO3) Ponciano Nesperos was a member of  the Special Operations Group-North Western Luzon (SOG-NWLZN) that responded to the drowning incident in Sitio Daeng. Barangay Halog East in Tubao amid inclement weather.

Upon arrival at the site, Nesperos volunteered to cross the raging river to secure the safety line on the other side, but lost his balance and was swept away by the current.

Attempts were made to save him, but he was already unconscious when recovered by his teammates.

Nesperos was taken to the La Union Medical Center but was declared “dead on arrival.” 

The PCG immediately informed his loved ones and continued coordination to provide the necessary assistance for them.

The entire PCG sympathizes with the bereaved Nesperos family.
