P-Pop’s new rock chicks

Blvck Flowers, the latest P-pop sensation introduced by Blvck Entertainment, owned by the business couple Engr. Louie and Grace Cristobal, has made a stunning entry into the music world with its empowering debut album. 

Comprising four talented members – Yara, Shanis, Pola, and Candace – the group recently showcased their extraordinary vocal abilities and captivating dance moves during their much-awaited press launch.

During the Q&A portion, Blvck Flowers confirmed that their group’s name is a combination of “blvck” (from their talent management) and “flower,” symbolizing women empowerment. They expressed that “Black and flower mean power and beauty, these two words sum up the core goal of our group which is to see, use, and enhance beauty as a positive force through music, artistic performance, and influence.” 

Speaking to Manila Standard Entertainment, the members emphasized their desire to be recognized as a versatile girl band, while also aiming to leave a lasting impression as the rock chicks of P-Ppop. 

“P-pop’s rock chicks? That sounds great. That’s what we are, we are a girl group pero may angas,” the group said.

Yara is the lead vocalist and lead rapper, known for her appearances on shows like Happy Together and as a print ad model and brand ambassador. Shanis shines as the main rapper and lead dancer, while Pola impresses as the main vocalist, with credits in TV shows and films like Centerstage and 3pol Trobol: Huli Ka Balbon. Candace, the group’s visual and main dancer, began her journey as a commercial model and competed in It’s Showtime.

Their musical influences include names like Sarah Geronimo, Yeng Constantino, and Belle Mariano, and they hope to collaborate with the all-girl group G22, managed by Cornerstone Entertainment.

Blvck Flowers’ self-titled digital album, featuring the carrier single “PPop Star,” is out now, presenting an unconventional, edgy, and radical P-pop sound. The music video for “PPop Star,” which cost P3 million to produce, is directed by Titus Cee in collaboration with Jon Gutierrez (a.k.a. King Badger).

Other tracks on the album, like “Blvck Flowers,” showcase the group’s unique collaboration with Engr. Louie and talented composers Romel Afable, Eyy, and Sindikato.
