Dequinan running 6th in heptathlon

Sarah Dequinan is in sixth place in the ongoing women’s heptathlon meet in Day 3 of the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships at the National Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

The 30-year-old Dequinan got this far after three events and with 2308 points to her credit.

Swapna Barman of India is in front with 2617 points, with Uzbekistan’s Ekaterina Voronina trailing with 2573 points.

Caijuan Chen of China is at third with 2569 points.

Dequinan earned her points after taking seventh in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking 14.76 seconds, behind Ninali Zhang of China, who led in 13.92 seconds.

She was fourth in the high jump after Karin Odama of Japan and Karina Geints of Kazkhstan with a similar clearance of 1.68 meters.

A 11.18-meter performance in shotput saw Dequinan finishing in eighth place.

Earlier, Fil-Spaniard John Cabang Tolentino came close to hitting the national record that he set last month when he clocked 13.7 seconds in the men’s 110-meter heats.

Tolentino, who came within a fraction of the record 13.65 seconds he achieved in clinching the Campeonato de Esukadi gold in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain last June 16, is in the finals.

Zhouyi Xu of China topped the heats with his 13.57 seconds, with Alyouha Yaquob tied in third with another Chinese, Ning Xiaohan at 13.62.
