Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri has assured labor groups and workers that he will continue to push for a minimum wage increase of P150.
He said this will ensure workers receive a decent living wage. “As I have said before, the wage board’s announcement of a minimum wage increase of P40 in the National Capital Region (NCR) is not enough. But it is a start,” he said.
“This is why I am amenable to a P100 hike for NCR,” he added.
Zubiri said the P40 wage board increase and the P100 legislated increase bring the total to P140, which is not far from his proposed figure.
According to Zubiri, he will continue to advocate for a P150 increase, especially since the P40 increase is only for NCR at the moment.
He pointed out that workers in the provinces toil just as hard as workers in Metro Manila, and also contend with high prices.
“So we need to make sure that their wages reflect this reality,” Zubiri further stated.
