The House of Representatives, under the leadership of Speaker Martin G. Romualdez, designated Committee on Agriculture and Food chairperson and Quezon Rep. Wilfrido Mark Enverga as the legislative caretaker of Valenzuela City.
Enverga would assume office as the substitute for former Rep. Rex Gatchalian, who was recently appointed as the new Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
With the designation of Enverga, lawmakers also formally accepted Gatchalian’s resignation as representative of the first District of Valenzuela City.
Majority Leader Manuel Jose Dalipe made the motion during Monday’s hybrid plenary session. Deputy Speaker Kristine Singson-Meehan presided over the session.
Gatchalian in a letter to Speaker Martin G. Romualdez dated Feb. 1 2023 said “it was an honor and privilge to have served as member of the House of Representatives on the 19th Congress, and as Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government under your able leadership.”
Romualdez earlier supported Gatchalian’s appoinment as DSWD Secretary.
