After the astronomical success of FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, Coco Martin is set to star in Batang Quiapo, the 1986 hit movie that paired the late King of Philippine Movies Fernando Poe, Jr. with Diamond Star Maricel Soriano.
To be directed by Martin and Malu Sevilla, the boob tube adaptation of Batang Quiapo is scheduled to be released in 2023 as announced by Dreamscape Entertainment.
It was confirmed that Lovi Poe who happens to be the late FPJ’s daughter will be Coco’s love interest in the TV version while Charo Santos-Concio will play his grandmother.
“Isang FPJ classic ang muling bibigyang-buhay ni Coco Martin kasama ang anak ng nag-iisang Da King, Lovi Poe,” Dreamscape shared in its official social media post noting that the adaptation of Batang Quiapo coincide with FPJ’s 18th death anniversary commemoration.
Some of the stars who are part of the main cast and will give strong support include Christopher de Leon, John Estrada, Lito Lapid, Cherry Pie Picache, Alan Paule, Pen Medina, Mark Lapid, Mercedes Cabral, and Tommy Abuel.
The plot of the original film centers around Baldo (FPJ), a pickpocket who was just recently released from prison and is determined to start a new life. Along the way, he meets Maria (Maricel) who herself is a young pickpocket, and leads her to the right path.

Jodi Sta. Maria adds another feather to her hat as she nabbed the Best Actress in a Leading Role trophy at the recent Asian Academy Creative Awards 2022 which was held in Singapore.
The Kapamilya star won for her portrayal in The Broken Marriage Vow, the ABS-CBN adaptation of the renowned BBC series Doctor Foster. In the soap opera, she breathed life to the character of Dr. Jill Ilustre, a betrayed and vengeful wife where she exhibited a wide gamut of emotions.
On her road to victory, Jodi edged out four equally fine actresses from Asia namely, Rebecca Lim of Singapore, Kim Hye-soo of South Korea, Cheryl Yang of Taiwan, and Sakshi Tanwar of India.
Dreamscape Entertainment, which produced The Broken Marriage Vow congratulated Jodi for achieving another milestone in her career and posted her acceptance speech on its Instagram page. It’s good that the award-winning actress was present in the prestigious event and personally accepted her trophy.
In her speech, Jodi stated: “This was so unexpected. Thank you to the Asian Academy, ABS-CBN, Dreamscape, BBC for allowing us to do the Philippine adaptation of ‘Doctor Foster. Our directors, my co-actors, the production team. I would always say that it takes a village to be able to produce a wonderful series,”
“I’m just at a loss for words. But again, thank you. This is the highlight of my year.
Thank you, thank you, God. I will give back all the glory and praise,” she ended.
