General Romeo Brawner, Tarlac Heritage Foundation Co-Founder Dona Isabel and Her Daughter Dra Isa Cojuangco Suntay, led the switchs on the lights of the Army Belen during opening of the Belenismo sa Tarlac 2022 at Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) at Camp General Servillano Aquino Headquarters and Camp O'Donnell in Tarlac City on Friday (Nov.4, 2022) evening amidst the Covid-19 pandemic whilst in keeping with the governments DOH Guidelines .A total of fifty-one (51) registered participants in five (5) categories entered in this years festival. Nine (9) entries in the Community category, ten (10) in the Church category, thirteen (13) in the Monumental category, seven (7) in the Grand Non-Municipal category, and twelve (12) in the Grand Municipal category. Aside from the officially registered participants in the contest, other business establishments, churches, private homes, and municipalities also put up their own displays, which help contribute to making the province of Tarlac known as the Belen Capital of the Philippines. Since its inception in 2007 and immediate accreditation by the Department of Tourism, the festival has annually demonstrated not only the ingenuity and artistry of Tarlaqueños in the art of Belen-making but also the bayanihan spirit among them. A commendable voluntary effort of Tarlaqueños to restore the religious and social significance of the Belen as a symbol of Christmas. Tarlac Heritage Foundation co-founder Isabel Cojuangco-Suntay and her daughter Isa were joined by Defense Usec. Jose Faustino Jr. and Army chief Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner in switching on the lights of the Army Belen during the opening of the Belenismo sa Tarlac 2022 Friday evening. Tarlac is known as the country’s belen capital.
