The Philippine Press Institute (PPI) recently held the 25th edition of the PPI Civic Community Press Awards. The awards program, launched in 1996, recognizes the outstanding works of journalists in the countryside.
‘This awards program is seen as a way to support for an important fabric of democratic societies: The community press. The unique role it plays in the social, economic, and cultural development of a community cannot be overemphasized. Studies have shown that people in the countryside give more credence to local news,’ said PPI chairman Rolando Estabillo.
