Former NBA player Andrew Nicholson drilled in 31 points and 10 rebounds as the Bay Area Dragons struck down winless Terrafirma Dyip, 130-76, in another lopsided encounter on Friday in the Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup at the PhilSports Arena.
The ex-Orlando Magic standout shot 19 points in the first period as the Dragons took charge right away with a 35-18 edge.
Qilong Zheng eked out 17 points for the Dragons, who picked up their sixth victory in seven outings.
Jian Hua Song added 15 points for the Dragons, whose 54-point win is biggest margin in a PBA game in the last 36 years.
No team has won this big since Utex crushed Great Taste, 154-99, back in 1980.
Nicholson gave credit to his teammates for making him look good.
“My teammates did a great job in moving the ball around and finding me in the right spot,” said Nicholson.
The 32-year-old power forward provided 12 points in the second quarter as the Dragons continued to stay in front and grab a 30-point spread at halftime, 67-37.
Juami Tiongson unloaded 21 points for Dyip, who are stuck to the bottom of the standings with their sixth straight loss.
Coach Brian Goorjian said his players refused to slow down following a two-week break from playing.
“They got a two week break. They wanted to finish this right because this is a danger game,” said Goorjian.
