OPM hitmaker chronicles journey through iconic songs
How often do we meet big stars who would sit down with you for a casual dinner and even perform a few songs to keep you entertained?
Early this month, Ice Seguerra and wife Liza Diño welcomed the members and officers of the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) into their home in Quezon City. Diño was in charge of the kitchen while Suegerra was the one entertaining the group with his stories and songs.
Before the night ended, Seguerra huddled with the press to talk about his struggles being confronted by the awkward stage—the phase where most child stars find it hard to fit in and find their place again in the business. He also talked about the success of “Pagdating ng Panahon,” which he considers the song that saved his life and career.
“If it wasn’t for my mom, I wouldn’t be here celebrating my 35th in the business. At the time when no one watches my shows anymore, it was my mom who kept pushing me to just perform. But if you’re asking what’s the turning point? It was that song,” Seguerra said alluding to the iconic song he released in 2001.
“It wasn’t the best song I had in the album. I couldn’t feel the emotion when I was singing it, so I was really surprised when I was told that it’s going to be the carrier single of my album then,” he added.
Prior to Seguerra’s second wind in showbiz, he said he became part of a showband that used to perform in a small band along Aurora Boulevard.
“There were only two or three tables there. One of the tables occupied pa ng parents ko,” he recalled.
“You see, I had so much struggles before, with my sexuality and my career. I even tried to be part of a love team kasi ‘yun ‘yung uso before,” Seguerra went on.
Stories like these are some of the things that the audience can expect from Seguerra’s upcoming concert entitled Becoming Ice.
On October 15, Seguerra will take us on a musical and visual journey of his evolution. Becoming Ice: The 35th Anniversary Concert will take place at The Theater at Solaire from 8:00 p.m. onwards.
This milestone event came after a 10-year hiatus from the major concert stage when Seguerra celebrated his 25th year in the business. Fire and Ice Media and Productions, Inc., his own production company with his wife, Liza Diño, will produce the show in cooperation with Nathan Studios. Seguerra will be the stage director in collaboration with musical director Ivan Lee Espinosa.
“I’m very excited to do a major solo concert again after ten years. I miss the energy, the emotions, and the presence of people who appreciates the experience of a live event. Becoming Ice is very personal to me because this is the first time that I’m going to do a major concert as Ice Seguerra. And happy ako, I get to share my 35-year journey in this business with my fans,” Seguerra mused.
This concert is Seguerra’s love letter to his fans and supporters, who remained loyal despite the many challenges he has encountered throughout his career. He will sing the soundtrack of our lives with phenomenal hits like “Pagdating ng Panahon” and “Anong Nangyari sa Ating Dalawa” among many others. The multi-platinum artist promises a night of reminiscence, nostalgia, and feel-good vibes.
