With a career already established internationally and growing rapidly in the States, the London-born, Australian songwriter and pop prodigy Ruel is back with a first look at his debut album in the brand-new single, “You Against Yourself” via RCA Records.
The song, co-produced by esteemed producers Sammy Witte (Harry Styles, Halsey, King Princess) and M-Phazes (Khalid, Sam Fischer, Noah Cyrus) is accompanied by a new music video from creative director Grey Ghost (Troye Sivan).
With over 2 billion streams worldwide and a string of sold-out world tours, Ruel has firmly established his moniker as an influential singer-songwriter and young artist to watch. Having spent the last two and a half years writing and recording over 100 new songs, Ruel’s most recent releases include the young anthem “Growing Up Is _” and the introspective track, “Let The Grass Grow.” No stranger to success, his bourgeoning repertoire also includes the multi-platinum singles “Younger,” “Dazed & Confused,” and “Painkiller,” the latter of which became a Top 10 international hit and went on to go 3x platinum.
Now the Aussie native is back with “You Against Yourself” – an up-tempo pop anthem. Ruel’s honest lyrics are on display as listeners get a peek into the 19-year-old’s relationships, over a massive chorus paired with gorgeous falsetto harmonies.
“You Against Yourself” is about someone in my life who has lots of self-destructing qualities.
“It’s about that feeling of reaching out to them to let them know the direction they’re heading in isn’t healthy and even though it seems like there’s little hope and you feel helpless, you’re still rooting for them,” ends Ruel.
