A relative of one of the missing cockfight enthusiasts or “sabungeros” said they have been offered P1 million in exchange for waiving their right to search for their missing kin, GMA News reported Monday.
In the report, the sabungeros’ kin, whose identity was concealed, told GMA TV reporter Emil Sumangil that they wanted to know where the offer or the information was coming from.
“If we took the P1 million, there would no longer be a case, we just had to sign a waiver,” the source said in Filipino.
Another source told GMA News that the Special Investigation Task Group created to probe the missing cockfight players was expanding and expediting its probe.
The sabungeros’ kin were also looking forward to meeting with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to raise with him their concerns and distress.
“Perhaps they’re forgetting that our group is still here, knocking on their door,” Janina Pilarta, wife of the missing John Claude Inonog, told GMA also in Filipino.
Meanwhile, a source from the special investigation task group created to probe the missing sabungeros told GMA News that they were expanding and expediting their investigation.
The Philippine National Police’s Highway Patrol Group, Intelligence Group, Anti-Kidnapping Group, and Anti-Cybercrime Group would be taking part in the special probe, the source added.
He said authorities were trying to identify a person who was seen withdrawing money from a bank using the ATM card of one of the missing sabungeros. They had also found an informant who could shed light on the missing cockfight enthusiasts.
