Mutya ng Pilipinas is back

The 52nd edition of Mutya ng Pilipinas (MNP) returns after it was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic. The search for forty official MNP candidates, here and abroad, is now open and the titles Mutya ng Pilipinas 2022, Mutya ng Pilipinas Overseas Communities, and Top Model of the World are at stake.

The MNP 2022 queen will aim to redefine the meaning of women empowerment by embracing a more proactive role in highlighting the theme of “Sustainability & Inclusivity,” through responsible citizenship, respecting individuality, and upholding social responsibility.

“This is an opportune time for beauty pageants to become a relevant platform to uplift and support the future of Philippine women by extolling the virtues of and embracing the potential of the Filipina,” said Cory Quirino, president of MNP Organization.

“I totally support this new and dynamic direction of Mutya ng Pilipinas,” said Fred Yuson, chairman of MNP.

MNP also announced that due to the proximity of Miss Tourism International 2022 next month, where the Mutya winner is competing, a separate Mutya representative will be appointed the soonest time. Klyza Castro, April May Short, Tyra Rae Goldman, and Cyrille Payumo, who won Miss

Tourism International in 2019, were the last winners of MNP. Coronation Night of MNP 2022 is set late this year.

Connext, a leading life and non-life insurance agency in the Philippines, helps preserve Mother Earth through an effort in reducing the paper waste materials coming from printed insurance policies, and thereby, creating a more sustainable solution to an age-old untenable insurance practice—producing paperless insurance policies called “Eco-Policy.”

“We are glad to have Connext as partner in promoting our cause through creating innovative and sustainable insurance practices” said Peachy Veneracion, vice-president for Marketing of Carousel Productions.

At the conclusion of the pre-judging competition, Jasmine Paguio of Filipino Community Toronto, Canada, was named the winner of the Miss BingoPlus special award.

Following in the footsteps of former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, Nieto, who grew up in Binondo, served as Councilor and then Manila 3rd District representative.

After graduating from the Philippine College of Criminology, Nieto passed up becoming a policeman and instead, accepted the late director Maryo J. de los Reyes’ offer to become an actor. He was most memorable as Nora Aunor’s co-star in de los Reyes’ Naglalayag, which swept the awards during the 2004 Manila film Festival including best actor and best actress.
