DFA designates new spokesperson

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has designated a new spokesperson who will be tasked to articulate the country’s position on foreign policy issues.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo appointed Ma. Teresita Daza as the DFA’s spokesperson, in concurrent capacity to work alongside the agency’s Office of Public and Cultural Diplomacy.

It was four years ago when the DFA secretary last designated a spokesperson, and 18 years since it last had a female spokesperson.

Daza, a veteran career diplomat, “brings a wealth of experience to her position,” the DFA said in a statement.

Daza served as the Philippine Ambassador to Chile, with concurrent jurisdiction over the Republic of Ecuador and the Republic of Peru, prior to her designation.

She was also the Philippine Ambassador to India, with concurrent jurisdiction over Nepal, and served as Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. And Deputy Permanent Representative at the Permanent Mission of the Philippines to ASEAN in Jakarta.

At the DFA’s Philippine office, Daza also occupied positions in key offices, including the Office of ASEAN Affairs, Office of Protocol, and the Office of the Secretary-Economic Diplomacy Unit.

Daza said she was humbled by her new assignment.

“With the guidance of Secretary Manalo, I hope to assist in the articulation of our country’s position on various foreign policy issues, while keeping the media, especially the DFA Press Corps, abreast with the work of our Department,” the new DFA spokesperson stressed.
