‘Sing Galing’ hosts take on mature roles in new season

TV5’s original “Videoke Kantawanan ng Bansa,” Sing Galing, is back for another season. Unlike the previous seasons, its hosts (or Sing Masters) Randy Santiago, K Brosas, and Donita Nose took on more mature roles: looking after children.

For the first time, Sing Galing’s contestants consist of children from across the country who want to show off their talent in singing and have genuine fun on the show. Since the Sing Masters will interact with a younger audience, they had to try different approaches to keep them engaged and comfortable.

Randy, who’s been in the entertainment industry for 35 years and counting, said he looked back on his previous experiences as a host on how to interact with kids during a game show. He said he became more of a Ninong (godfather) to the kids and genuinely enjoyed their company.

He added that they had to adjust to filming early, considering the kids’ schedules.

On the other hand, Donita Nose, who fondly considers herself an older sister to kids, had to filter and mince her words so kids could understand her better and make the show age-appropriate. As their Ate, Donita also helps the kids showcase their other talents besides singing.

Viewers can expect more fun and ‘kulitan’ with the young contestants of ‘Sing Galing Kids’

In one of those skits, however, she recalls an incident where she unknowingly made a contestant cry.

“Gusto daw niya kasi maging artista so kunwari, ako yung evil stepmother niya. Parang nagulat ata siya sa akin kaya umiyak siya bigla. After naman noon, naging okay na kami,” Donita said during the Sing Galing Kids Kiddie Con at Vista Mall Taguig last July 9.

Despite the good times shared between the contestants and the cast, Sing Galing Kids remains a competition, and some of the young contestants will inevitably feel bad for not advancing further.

Aside from the guidance, the kids receive from the hosts, judges, and cast of the show, K shares that a professional child psychologist is always on-site to assist kids who need it. She said having a child psychologist around helps prepare the kids for their appearance on the show and teaches them necessary values from the outcomes.

The Sing Masters aren’t the only ones who’ll be dealing with the young contestants and offering them relevant pieces of advice. Ethel Booba and Rey Valera reprise their roles as the competition’s judges or Juke Bosses. Joining them are new judges, Jona Viray and Morissette Amon, who are no strangers to singing competitions.

Both Jona and Morissette continuously encourage the children to keep singing and pursuing their passions, regardless of what happens in the competition and in life.

While they enjoyed the kulitan with the young contestants, the judges also cried and related to their life stories, especially with family.

Other personalities who add fun and excitement to Sing Galing Kids are Sing Galing’s Ultimate Bida-oke grand champion Mari Mar Tua and online influencer Queenay as the “Arkidia Ates,” who will be hanging out with the kiddie contestants. Sing Galing’s beloved mascot, Genie, and Digiverse Master Zendee, with Junior Singtokers, Yoyo and Tyronia, are also there to add to the show’s flair.

Sing Galing Kids premiered on July 16, Saturday, at 6 p.m. on TV 5.
