PCUP to assist 15 million urban poor until yearend

The Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) targets 15 million urban poor Filipinos for its economic benevolence program for the remaining half of the year.

Amid the transition period, PCUP is not abandoning its mission to look after the welfare of the urban poor sector as its top priority, said PCUP chair and chief executive officer Alvin Feliciano said.

He said the commission was able to set an all-time record of 10 million underprivileged Filipinos served by its programs and services aimed for their betterment last year.

He mentioned the agency’s prime programs of capability building programs; relief operations; food, health, scholarship, and accreditation caravans.

He said they were not remiss in helping to resolve issues of land tenure, and monitoring of demolition and eviction; and doing continuous efforts in aiding the urban poor during disasters, such as last year’s Taal eruption and the COVID-19 pandemic.

“In behalf of our Commission, we hope that next Chairperson and set of Commissioners to set foot in PCUP will be inspired of what we will left for the Commission, and may they continue to respond to the needs of our urban poor Filipinos, transforming their lives, one step at a time,” the PCUP undersecretary said.
