Alsons Power inks pact with the Subanen community

Alsons Energy Development Corporation (AEDC), the Alsons Power group’s project development arm, recently signed a memorandum of agreement with the Subanen indigenous community of Siayan, Zamboanga del Norte.

The agreement will cover the Subanen community’s share of royalties and other benefits to the community from the prospective operations of a 22 mega-watt (MW) hydroelectric power project currently being developed by AEDC within the vicinity of the Subanen people’s home territory.

The prospective hydro project will be owned and operated by AEDC affiliate Siayan Sindangan Zambo-River Power Corporation (SZPC).

The agreement exemplifies the emerging partnership between Alsons Power and the Subanen People whose quality of life will be greatly improved by the SZPC hydro power project.

Alsons Power – Mindanao’s first private sector power generator – plans to develop at least seven more run of river hydro power facilities in different parts of Mindanao and the Visayas.

The group currently operates four power facilities in Mindanao with a total generating capacity of 468 MW serving over eight million people in 14 cities and 11 provinces in the country’s second largest island.
