Aksyon Demokratiko standard-bearer Francisco Isko Moreno Domagoso on Tuesday took time off from his hectic campaign schedule to meet with representatives of Elon Musk’s SpaceX Enterprise for the acquisition of Starlink’s satellite broadband internet system for Manila City.
Moreno was grateful for the early morning meeting with Rebecca Hunter, SpaceX senior manager for government affairs, and Raymond Garcia, SpaceX partner-representative for the Philippines and other Asian countries.
The SpaceX representatives were also scheduled with national government officials in the hope of making the Philippines the first country in the Asean region to avail of Starlink low-orbit satellite and Manila as the first city in Southeast Asia to acquire its fast broadband internet service.
Moreno had earlier talked of Starlink’s low-orbit satellites during previous press conferences which members of the media had not picked up. His latest talk about Starlink is when Elon Musk sent his satellites to Ukraine for the use of its citizens.
According to Moreno, the acquisition of the low-orbit satellite internet system will soon greatly boost the Philippine capital’s capacity to deliver basic social services through fast, reliable and free internet.
In Cagayan De Oro, a heavy downpour did not dampen the outpouring of support from thousands of residents for Moreno who attended his grand rally in this Northern Mindanao City.
The Aksyon Demokratiko rally started typically with prayers and the playing of the national anthem. But then a light drizzle began to fall just when the program proper started, forcing Moreno to plead for his supporters to just go home lest they get sick.
Instead of heeding his call, his supporters fell into a shouting frenzy of “Isko, Isko, Isko!” and the now famous “Two joints, two joints, two joints!” as they egged the charismatic presidential candidate to continue. Moreno reiterated his commitment to find ways to improve the lives and livelihood of Filipinos should he win in the upcoming elections.
If elected president, Moreno has vowed to pursue a “Life and Livelihood” economic policy that aims to address poverty, hunger, unemployment, inequality and social injustice through though the effective, efficient and prudent management of government resources under an open, transparent and inclusive administration, as spelled out under his 10-point Bilis Kilos Economic Agenda.
Moreno further said he will support and promote the tourism industry in Misamis Oriental, particularly in Cagayan de Oro City, to spread growth and progress in the countryside
