DITO Telecommunity Corp., a joint venture of Davao-businessman Dennis Uy and China Telecoms, said Thursday it is spending more than P50 billion to meet its commitment to the government of 70-percent population coverage this year
“For network build, we are implementing more than P50 billion rollout for 2022 essentially to achieve our 70-percent population coverage target,” DITO chief technology officer Rodolfo Santiago said in a virtual briefing.
“For 2022, the technical target is to achieve the 70-percent population coverage by July 8 of 2022 and by end of 2022, we have to be poised to achieve the target for July 2023,” he said.
DITO’s population coverage is now at 64 percent to 65 percent. “The gap is only 5 percent. That is why we are really confident that we can achieve the 70-percent population coverage very early before July 8. Probably by May or first week of June, we can already achieve the 70 percent,” Santiago said.
“We need 300 more towers to achieve the target,” he said.
