Balanga City, Bataan”•The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development deputy executive director for Research and Development Dr. Juanito Batalon and Bataan Peninsula State University Research Development director professor Rod Muñoz attended five-day Workshop on Smart Farming recently held in Thailand.
The participation of the two Filipino experts to the international workshop was through PCAARRD’s program Global Technology Information Search.
The international workshop was attended by experts from countries Bangladesh, Cambodia, Republic of China, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam.
The workshop was organized by Asian Productivity Organization, of which PCAARRD is a member.
“A search was conducted with experts in the Philippines and we were chosen,” Muñoz said.
He said their names are now included in the PCAARRD’s roster who can attend similar workshops in the future.
Muñoz said precision agriculture through technologies in farm production was tackled.
“Smart farming includes greenhouse system, solar agriculture, drone for agriculture, satellite images for agriculture, and robotic tractor,” the BPSU professor explained.
PCAARRD and BPSU are currently collaborating for pioneer research on smart farming in the country.
