Los Baños, Laguna”•His Excellency U Lwin Oo, Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to the Philippines, expressed appreciation for the scholarships that the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture has provided to Myanmar nationals during his visit to SEARCA.
He was received by Dr. Glenn B. Gregorio, SEARCA Director and Joselito G. Florendo, SEARCA Deputy Director for Administration on Dec. 19.
Ambassador Lwin Oo was recently appointed to the Philippines, having presented his credentials to President Rodrigo R. Duterte on Dec. 4.
Dr. Gregorio briefed him about SEARCA and its programs, many of which are regional in scope and include projects and activities covering Myanmar such as the ongoing project “Agricultural Transformation and Market Integration in ASEAN Countries: Responding to food security and inclusiveness concerns.”
In particular, Myanmar has been actively engaged with SEARCA’s Graduate Education and Institutional Development Program.
Dr. Gregorio said exactly 100 Myanmar nationals have been awarded SEARCA scholarships for master’s and doctoral studies, 83 of whom have completed their graduate programs.
Also present during the briefing were Florendo; Min Si Thu Zaw who is Third Secretary, Embassy of Myanmar in the Philippines; and the Ambassador’s wife.
Before meeting with the SEARCA officials, Lwin Oo met with Myanmar students currently enrolled at the University of the Philippines Los Baños, most of whom are SEARCA scholars.
