Believe it or not, but a husband-and-wife tandem was among the participants in the individual events of triathlon last Sunday morning in Subic, the first time that these two are competing together in one international event carrying their country’s colors.
According to Aldrian Yu Yong Yeo, it was love at first sight for him when he first saw Chen Yin Yang three years ago in a triathlon event in Malaysia, where Yang was a member of a relay team as a swimmer.
Aldrian was smitten badly by the pretty woman that he turned to Facebook to trace Yang’s whereabouts.
Their relationship grew from there, until they got married in 2016. They have a nine-month-old baby boy.
Yang, 27, is ranked in the top 3 women triathletes in Malaysia and has competed in past Commonwealth Games, representing her country, while her husband, older at 36, works on organizing events aside from triathlon coaching.
They were supposed to have competed together in 2018 at the Asian Games in Indonesia, but Yang became pregnant and had to take a break from training. Even now that they have resumed training, they have to alternate their schedule to take care of their baby. Good thing that both are working on their own as Yang serves as assistant to Aldrian in his activities.
In the event held in Subic, Aldrian finished 6th in the 10-man field, while Yang was a rung lower at 7th.
But both expressed satisfaction at their respective performances. After all, the more important thing for them is being together in the sport that they both love with a passion.
The couple is looking forward to the time that it will be a father-mother-child team for them in triathlon.
