Solano, Nueva Vizcaya—FCF Minerals Corp. has provided journalism and communication training for Sangguniang Kabataan leaders to increase the awareness of villagers on responsible mining and development.
Ian Moller, FCF Minerals general manager for Sustainability, said the training held at the PLT Resort in Barangay Bascaran here will equip the youth in practicing community journalism as a tool to empower their respective communities.
“This training is part of our Golden Ribbon Program to develop the skills of SK leaders as our partners in sharing development and useful information to our various stakeholders,” he said.
Moller said the trained SK leaders will soon be managing their community newspaper “Balitok” (gold in the local dialect), which is circulated to various stakeholders in Cagayan Valley.
The participants, which came from barangays of Quezon and Kasibu towns, also crafted their Priority Programs, Projects and Activities for funding and implementation.
They seek to address issues and concerns on illegal drugs, environment protection, livelihood opportunities, campaign to reduce teenage pregnancy and solid waste management, among others.
FCF Minerals operates the gold-molybdenum project in barangay Runruno in Quezon town.
