The Department of Public Works and Highways has completed the construction of a P62.2-million road that will serve as an inter-regional link between Cagayan in Region 2 and Apayao in the Cordillera Administrative Region.
Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said the road project started in February last year, funded under the 2018 General Appropriations Act, and was completed in March 2019.
He said the concreting works of the 1.8-kilometer Ayaga-Sta.Marcela-Flora-Lasam Road in the municipality of Lasam, Cagayan, will cut travel time in the area by as much as 30 minutes and will be mainly used to transport agricultural products to Metro Manila.
The project also involved the construction of a drainage system and slope protection works that will help prevent flooding and maintain soil stability, the department said in a statement.
The DPWH also built two bridges in the region costing P32 million to make the road fully accessible by motorists coming from both ends.
More infrastructures are underway in Region 2 and about to be completed before 2020, Villar said.
