Worldwide IRONMAN registration under way
Early bird registrants of the 2020 Century Tuna IRONMAN Philippines Presented by Big Boss Cement, which will be held June 7, 2020 at Subic Bay, join the start of the worldwide registration to the IRONMAN race yesterday at the Blue Room, 25th floor Tower 1, PSE in Makati City.

This unique, life-altering experience can be attained by local triathletes with the holding of the 2020 Century Tuna IRONMAN Philippines Presented by Big Boss Cement which will be held June 7, 2020 at Subic Bay.

Worldwide registration to the IRONMAN race opened 8 a.m., yesterday August 1 at the Blue Room, 25th floor Tower 1, PSE in Makati City.

Century Pacific Food, Inc. Vice-President and General Manager Greg Banzon said bringing the full distance IRONMAN here in the Philippines is a treat to the growing local triathlon community.

“Holding the 2020 Century Tuna IRONMAN Philippines will allow Filipino triathletes to share this experience and triumph with as many members of their family as possible. So that’s the whole point of bringing the experience to the Philippines. Kasama ang iyong family. Iyong mahal mo sa buhay, in that IRONMAN experience,” said Banzon.

The race will be only the second full distance IRONMAN to be held in the country after the 2018 IRONMAN in Subic which was dubbed 2018 Most Challenging Triathlon Race in Asia – Long Course by AsiaTRI.COM Awards.

Princess Galura, General Manager of Sunrise Events, which organizes and stages all IRONMAN races in the Philippines, said the challenging course was reflected in the time it took participants to complete the 3.8 km swim, 180 km bike and a 42 km run.

“Last year, we had the hardest long course triathlon race in Asia for 2018. Though the course is quite difficult due to the weather, we are thrilled to see the participants taking these as challenges to race better. The 2020 race is very exciting as it will be a showcase of two years of hard work and training,” said Galura.

Century Tuna IRONMAN Philippines offers only 1,200 slots and interested participants are advised to book early. For the safety of all concerned, only those who have completed an IRONMAN 70.3 from January 2018 to March 2020 will be eligible to join the race.

Forty age group slots to the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona, Hawaii will be up for grabs for those who will participate.

Athletes begin their IRONMAN journey by completing two loops of 1.9 km ocean swim in the calm, pristine waters of Subic Bay. The athletes then proceed to the transition area.

Once on their bikes, athletes head out of Subic Bay and into the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) for a fast and flat two-loop, 180 km ride which will bring riders to the second transition.

Participants then run a 42.2 km, two-loop marathon through the run course which offers picturesque coastal views with local supporters lining the streets to cheer the athletes home.

Sunrise Events continues its tradition of running world class races which started in 2009 with the first IRONMAN 70.3 race held in Camarines Sur with 583 participants. From that modest start triathlon has grown by leaps and bounds with multiple races all over the Philippines year round.

Sunrise Events races are not just sporting competitions but events which showcase the numerous tourist destinations all over the country before a worldwide audience.
