A joint project of the Embassy of Sweden in Manila and SM, the recent Fashion Revolution Exhibit at the Mega Fashion Hall of SM Megamall featured Swedish brands’ efforts to reduce waste and make fashion a more sustainable industry.

Swedish brands H&M, Houdini, and Baby Björn showcased how they are changing fashion with garments, backpacks, and baby carriers made of organic materials and recycled PET bottles.

In addition to the Swedish labels, Filipino artist and designer Patis Tesoro, known for her upcycling advocacy, showcased three textile art pieces made of various fabrics sewn together to create beautiful and intricate tapestries.

Tesoro’s take on the malong landap highlighted the Maranao culture and Islamic architecture. Meanwhile, the delicate abaca pieces were salvaged from flooding in Aklan.

Sinulid: Altered Translation

The Atrium of SM Aura Premier served as the gallery for Benilde Fashion Design and Merchandising Program students’ annual show Sinulid: Altered Translation.

Welcoming guests and shoppers was a stunning array of pop-up booths and chic vignettes dressed with fresh brand concepts and novel breakthroughs.

It featured garments from nature- and art-inspired ready-to-wear, upcycled denims, ballet and hip hop-inspired streetwear, distinct avant-garde pieces, eye-catching knits, and elegant evening ensembles.

Nicole Strawford’s display of vibrant ternos won the Best Exhibit Presentation. Her Pino Collection is a contemporary take on a traditional wear, which nods to the roots of Filipinos. It showcased cultural and temporal transformation through loud prints of the ‘80s and the ‘90s go-to snacks.
