Panay Electric Co. Inc. filed a criminal case seeking P100 million in damages against two councilors and two others for allegedly simulating a signature drive that harmed the company’s reputation.

The P100-million claim represents the “amount of investment, equipment, and facilities, which complainant (PECO) had spent and invested in building its business throughout its 95-year existence and service to the entire Iloilo community.”

PECO filed the complaint before the Department of Justice in Manila against Iloilo City Councilors Joshua Alim and Plaridel Nava, Presidential Consultant for Western Visayas Jane Javellana and Iloilo resident Marigold Gonzalez, daughter of the late Justice secretary Raul Gonzalez Sr.

Alim said he had not received a copy of the complaint yet.

PECO president and administrative manager Marcelo Cacho alleged in the complaint that the respondents falsified some 27,000 signatures in a manifesto opposing the renewal of PECO’s congressional franchise.
