Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya—The Department of Agriculture has chosen Nueva Vizcaya as one of the 2018 Rice Achievers Awardees.
As an awardee, Nueva Vizcaya will also receive P4 million as an incentive for its outstanding feat.
The DA also recognized the provinces of Nueva Ecija, Occidental Mindoro, Zamboanga del Sur, Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, and Compostela Valley.
Governor Carlos Padilla said the award justifies the consistent sufficiency of rice being produced in the province.
“We are lucky that although our rice production areas are small compared to other provinces, we succeeded in maximizing their potentials thereby providing us with sufficient and quality supply of rice,” he said.
The awarding program will be held on May 30 at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.
The Rice Achievers Award is an annual search of the DA to recognize the country’s top rice producers. Adjudged top performing local government units and farmers’ organizations were given cash incentives through the DA Rice Program.
The contest also aims to encourage commitment and ensure excellent performance of the LGU stakeholders and farmers’ organizations to further increase yields and improve quality of their produce.
This, in turn, will help the country meet its rice self-sufficiency target.
