'Yanggaw' is a multi-awarded indie film directed by Richard Somes.

The movie stars veteran actors Ronnie Lazaro, Tetchie Agbayani, and Joel Torre in the lead, together with Erik Matti, and Aleera Montalla.

The Cinema One Originals offering is part of Spot.ph’s 10 Genuinely Terrifying Filipino Horror Films.

Yanggaw is not your typical horror film, but that’s exactly why it’s worth a watch. The scares are slowly yet surely drawn out, and seen through one character’s transformation into an aswang,” Jio de Leon wrote in 2016.

Film critic Philbert Dy highly recommends the film in his review on ClicktheCity.com. “Yanggaw is easily one of my favorite local films of all time, blending the joys of the aswang genre with the structure of a family drama to create a thoroughly Filipino film,” he said.

The film earned multiple awards including best actor for Ronnie in C1Originals 2008 and Gawad Urian 2009 for his role as the father of the stricken girl, played by Aleera who was hailed as Urian’s best supporting actress. Joel and Tetchie, meanwhile, got the best supporting actors award in C1 Originals.

Its director, Richard Somes, was recognized as C1 Originals’ best director and the film catapulted his directorial career in Philippine cinema.

Yanggaw won in digital movie direction, digital movie cinematography, digital production design, and digital movie of the year in the 2009 Star Awards for Movies.
