If elected as next mayor, Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte on Wednesday promised to implement in-city relocation for the city’s informal settlers.
Belmonte said the city government would continue to uphold the rights of its residents for affordable housing through the stricter implementation of QC’s own socialized housing code.
“Through the Comprehensive Socialized Housing Code of Quezon City, we are able to protect your rights for efficient housing. That’s why if there are any national projects that will affect your vicinities, you have the right to be compensated. And the city government will assure that your rights will not be compromised,” she said.
The city government has been wanting to take over the housing programs for informal settler families to make sure that the best interest of the residents is being served, the vice mayor added.
In another development, John Chiong, founder of Katilingban Sang Nag-Hiluisa (Kasanag) Inc. (Unity Makes Friends), yesterday filed a formal graft complaint against Belmonte with the Office of the Ombudsman to challenge the passage of the Quezon City Gambling Ordinance by the 37-member city council.
“It is only the Ombudsman that could tell if there is a probable cause as to why the ordinance is imposing an entry fee for city residents who would enter a casino-resort,” Chiong told reporters.”‹
