Munzon named country’s best 3X3 player

PasigGrindhouse Kings bet Joshua Munzon is the Philippines’ top 3×3 player.

This after Munzon led the Pasig-Grindhouse Kings to two of the four titles at stake in the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 President’s Cup series.

According to the FIBA 3X3 rankings for the Philippines, the 6-foot-4 Munzon scored a total of 96 points in 12 games played.

This earned Munzon an accumulated 79,380 ranking points from FIBA.

Joining Munzon in the top three are Pasig teammates Taylor Statham and Troy Rike.

Statham is the third-best scorer in the league with 91 total points and an accumulated 72,220 points.

Rike tallied a total of 77,590 points for third.

Pasig enters the Grand Finals of the President’s Cup as the top seed with 360 total points from the first four legs.

The knockout tournament will have a winner-take-all cash prize of P1-million as and a ticket to the FIBA 3X3 World Tour Doha.

The final stage takes place on Sunday, March 31 at the SM Fairview Events Center.

Completing the top five are 1Bataan Risers scorer Alvin Pasaol (56,390) and floor general Anton Asistio (54,750).

he Risers are the second-seed for the Grand Finals. Pasay Voyagers’ Jaypee Belencion (45,620), Pasig’s Dylan Ababou (45,070), and Pasay’s Arvin Tolentino (45,040) round out the top eight.

The Philippines is currently ranked as the 39th federation in 3×3 basketball with 1,267,280 points.

For the men’s side, the country is placed at 47th with 2,626,895 points, which is 12th in Asia.

The national 3×3 team of the Philippines represents the country in international 3×3 basketball matches and is controlled by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas.

The national team qualified for the 2016 FIBA 3×3 World Championships and made their debut in the tournament. They lost two and win two of their four matches.

The national team played their second stint in the world championships, now renamed as the FIBA 3×3 World Cup in 2018 held in Bocaue. This time the Philippine national team composed of professional players was supported by Bounty Agro Ventures, the owners of Chooks-to-Go and sponsor of the national team and tournament.

Like in 2016, they lost half of their four matches (to Mongolia and Canada) but won over Brazil and Russia which were ranked fifth and third respectively. The team was composed of players who typically plays the full five-on-five basketball.
