Parañaque begins its title-retention bid on Saturday when it takes on Laguna in the opening day of the second season of the National Basketball League at the Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

The Aces battle the Pistons in the second game of the doubleheader at 6 p.m. right after the first game between the Taguig Generals and the Dasmariñas Ballers at 4 p.m.

Parañaque coach Harold Sta. Cruz said the Aces have kept their core intact, led by last year’s finals Most Valuable Player Noy Bermudes, Jess Quilatan, and Richmond Sunga.

“Sinabi ko tapos na ‘yung last season. Kung kaya namin i-defend ‘yung championship, why not? Hard practice pa rin kami para pagdating sa game, laging go hard,” said Sta. Cruz.

Laguna made a big impression entering the second season of the league after sweeping the preseason.

The Dasmariñas Ballers, meanwhile, will go up against the Taguig Generals as they aim to return to the finals after bowing to the Aces in last season’s championship series.

A simple opening ceremony at 3 p.m. will kick off the start of the league’s second season that will also feature a women’s and youth tournament.
