PNOC unit installs 1-MW solar rooftop system on PICC

PNOC Renewables Corp., a unit of state-owned Philippine National Oil Co., recently installed the one-megawatt solar rooftop project of the Philippine International Convention Center.

PNOC RC said in a statement it installed the solar rooftop on the reception and plenary hall (600 kilowatts), secretariat hall (210 kilowatts) and delegation hall 240 kilowatts).

The project completion and inauguration are one of the highlights of PNOC RC’s energy efficiency program for government agencies, and their most significant accomplishment in terms of scale.

“This is our most significant accomplishment for 2018, and our biggest solar rooftop installation to date. It has a capacity to generate more than one megawatt of clean solar energy, which will be consumed by PICC’s world-class facilities for their daily operations. This will very much reduce your electricity costs and carbon footprint for more than 20 years, the solar PV system’s expected lifespan,” PNOC RC president John Arenas said.

It is the largest rooftop solar PV system that PNOC RC has installed as of date, showcasing it on the world-class facility for global conventions and exhibits of the PICC.

The installations will be operated and maintained by PNOC RC within the agreed cooperation period.

The solar PV system will provide PICC with clean solar energy and displace around 1,200,000 kWh annually of electricity from the grid.

Apart from the electricity savings, the project will offset more than 1,000 metric tons of carbon emissions from fossil fuel energy sources.

The installation will be turned over to PICC after the agreed period of operation and maintenance.
