Many hope the smashing success of Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, who put Filipiniana wear and other traditional Philippine attire and accessories in the spotlight, translates to a well-deserved and sustained support for the local fashion industry.

“Kasuotan: Filipiniana Redefined,” a coffee table book by the women legislators of the 17th Congress, highlights such outstanding contribution of the local industries and talents as well as the accomplished legislators that champion them.

Deputy Speaker Linabelle Ruth R. Villarica, president of the Association of Women Legislators Foundation, Inc., said that in their latest fundraiser, “Children patients of the National Center for Mental Health will thank you,” as the proceeds from the book sale will help build the Paaralan at Palaruan ng Kabataan at the National Center for Mental Health in Mandaluyong City.

It marks another opportunity for a relevant contribution by the women legislators who broke ground as they called attention to the human rights and care for mental health patients through the passage of the Republic Act 11036 or the Philippine Mental Health Law in November 2017.

Antipolo City First District Rep. Maria Cristina Roa-Puno, chairperson of the book project, coordinates with the Department of Health for the facilities needed while her co-chair, Rep. Alexandria P. Gonzales (Lone District, Mandaluyong City) shall oversee the construction of the facilities located within her congressional district.
