BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya—The provincial government here recently recognized and awarded various barangays and municipalities that continue to advocate eco-friendly practices in their respective communities.
The awards and recognitions were offered through the conduct of the 2018 Search for “Makakalikasang Barangay at Munisipio.”
Forester Tito Tanguilig, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources officer, said the awarding highlighted the yearly celebration of Environmental Awareness Month in the province which was institutionalized through a provincial ordinance in 2014.
The awardees were Sta. Fe town as 2018 Makakalikasang Municipio Grand Winner with P700,000 cash prize, Kasibu at second Place with P300,000, and Diadi at third with P200,000 in the upland municipalities category.
For lowland towns, the winners were Aritao with P500,000 prize, Solano at 2nd with P300,000 and Dupax del Sur at 3rd with P200,000 cash prize.
Barangay Sto. Domingo Proper in Bambang town was the Makakalikasang Barangay Grand Winner with P250,000, Barangay Imugan of Sta. Fe with P200,000, and Barangay Kongkong of Kasibu with P150,000.
The local government units of Sta. Fe and Solano Public Market also reaped special awards as Cleanest Bodies of Water and Best Municipal Disposal Facility, respectively.
Barangays Sto Domingo Proper in Bambang town, Casat in Bayombong town, and Paniki in Bagabag town were chosen as Best Material Recovery Facility (MRF), Best Vermicomposting Facility, and Best Practices for Solid Waste Management Program (SWMP), respectively.
“We expect that other barangays will also employ their best practices and innovations so that we can all do our share in reducing the threat of solid waste to our health and effects of climate change,” Tanguilig said.
